According to the Louisiana Civil Code, succession is "the transmission of the estate of the deceased to his successors. The successors thus have the right to take possession of the estate of the deceased after complying with applicable provisions of law." Filing for succession is a legal process that is handled through the Louisiana civil court system. In most states this process is referred to as Probate.
After obtaining information on the deceased that includes the official death certificate, legal residence of the deceased and any Will that legally states the deceased's wishes, the executor will be the legal representative for all affairs related to distributing property to heirs or persons named in the Will. If no executor is named, the court will appoint an Administrator to conclude the decedent's affairs.
Louisiana laws are very different from any other state. Louisiana has very strict laws that control where property goes after someone dies.
